Our Story

The journey of how Peanuts came to be was a kind of “dream come true” for me as a Vietnamese person and a vegetarian. Through our dishes, I wanted to have people discover the kind of food I grew up eating here in Vietnam, with a focus on clean ingredients and bringing my family’s homemade touch to the food we serve.

At Peanuts, we serve traditional Vietnamese vegan and vegetarian cuisine, with a particular emphasis on my family’s own personal recipes. These recipes took shape organically during my childhood during hard times when meat was not so affordable for our family. Essentially, we took dishes traditionally made with meat and transformed them into meatless versions we could eat and enjoy on our family’s budget. Lucky for us, my family’s vegetarian versions were still a healthy, delicious, and easy choice given that vegetables were so available and plentiful in our community. Not only were they nutritious, but they were prepared with my family’s care and passion for making delicious food. Truly, I was raised enjoying these dishes.

With this restaurant, I feel it is important to use only the best ingredients we can come by, sourced from farms we know in Hội An, and support locally-grown ingredients as much as possible. In addition to using quality ingredients, Peanuts has always strived to serve the best food at the most affordable prices we can since we opened in April 2020, in the thick of Vietnam’s first national Covid lockdown. Peanuts’ vegan offerings include flavorful, protein-packed stews and spicy sauces that are made with a lot of love and care, the way my mother prepared our meals at home. We’d like to bring all this to you. We love sharing our excitement about food, and of course, we LOVE sharing good food with our friends.
